The Catholic Vote on Abortion and Trump

On August 28, the Washington Post, via Aaron Blake, reported that “Trump has a problem with the Catholic Vote.”

This raises the question: what is the Catholic vote?  Romney got two percent more than Obama did of the Catholic vote.

As a Catholic, I do not understand how any true Catholic can vote for Obama and Hillary.

While there are numerous issues, such as Hillary’s corruption, emails, Benghazi, and others that have been discussed at length here, if we analyze the election solely on abortion, then the issue of abortion should prevent any true Catholic from voting for Hillary.  I would add that it should also prevent any Christian or Jew, because abortion is killing of an unborn child.

A Word of Two from Bishop Chaput

Presidential campaigns typically hit full stride after Labor Day in an election year.  But 2016 is a year in which two prominent Catholics – a sitting vice president, and the next vice presidential nominee of his party — both seem to publicly ignore or invent the content of their Catholic faith as they go along.  And meanwhile, both candidates for the nation’s top residence, the White House, have astonishing flaws.
This is depressing and liberating at the same time.  Depressing, because it’s proof of how polarized the nation has become.  Liberating, because for the honest voter, it’s much easier this year to ignore the routine tribal loyalty chants of both the Democratic and Republican camps.  I’ve been a registered independent for a long time and never more happily so than in this election season.  Both major candidates are – what’s the right word? soproblematic – that neither is clearly better than the other.

KofC: Catholic Politicians Should Follow Church Teaching

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 17, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – The leader of the Knights of Columbus has said Catholic politicians should follow the Catholic Church’s teachings or resign from office.
In an op-ed for The Hill, KofC Supreme Knight Carl Anderson begins by citing the common argument by pro-abortion politicians that they may wall off their public and private morality into separate, hermetically sealed compartments:
This line of reasoning got its start from the late New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, in a speech at Notre Dame in 1984. He said: “As a Catholic I accept the church's teaching authority...I accept the bishops' position that abortion is to be avoided.”
Question:  Is he a member of the Knights?  If yes, he needs to be stripped of his membership in good standing.

Kaine Says Cheating Politicians Should Resign (does that go for liars?)

Bill Clinton should have resigned over the Monica Lewinsky scandal—at least, that’s a view Tim Kaine once held.
Kaine’s remark—reported 14 years ago in the Richmond Times-Dispatch in the aftermath of a state-level sex scandal—hasn’t drawn any attention thus far in the 2016 presidential cycle. But it suggests Hillary Clinton’s running mate at one point harbored reservations about the integrity of the man poised to become the country’s first first gentleman.

Comparison of Political Party Platforms by Priests for Life

Even if a candidate says that they are Catholic, the party platform is a good indicator of what they will actually support.

The Reverend Kaine?

Kaine’s talk before the Progressive National Baptist Convention, a 2.5-million-member, liberal black denomination, was sermon-like in its heavy religious message and cadence. It ended with the denomination’s president saying: “Give it up for Reverend Kaine!” and contained many scriptural references, tales of his work as a missionary and of praying with Hillary Clinton backstage at the Democratic National Convention.
The core of his talk was about the Biblical story of Job, who loses everything, which Kaine said is really about how people react to suffering and tough conditions, whether they blame the victim and past errors or instead commit more deeply to their faith, principles and moving forward.
However, there has not been one mention about the devastating effects that abortion has had on the African-American community!  How African-Americans are still taken advantage by the Democrat Party!   No mention of how home ownership is at the lowest level in 51 years -- and you cannot attribute all of it to racism.  Not one mention of the devastating effects of black-on-black crime and what all churches can do to help stop it!

Just another reason not to vote for Clinton/Kaine.

Confused by Tim Kaine’s latest abortion flip-flop? Don't be fooled by the flim-flam!

Vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine’s position on the Hyde Amendment seems to have confused many people – no one more so than himself.
The Democratic Party has given mixed signals about whether Kaine supports repealing the Hyde Amendment, a 1970s-era law that prevents taxpayers from funding abortion-on-demand. Hillary Clinton has promised to strike the law off the books, a position officially adopted in the 2016 Democratic Party platform.
Initially Kaine , who once styled himself a “pro-life Democrat,” said he favored the Hyde Amendment. Then the party jumped in to “clarify.”
“He has said that he will stand with Secretary Clinton to defend a woman’s right to choose, to repeal the Hyde amendment,” Clinton campaign official Robby Mook toldCNN on July 24. Two days later, Clinton spokesman Jesse Ferguson verified that Kaine’s promise to repeal Hyde had been “made privately.”
On Sunday, Kaine flip-flopped again, saying he had not changed his views at all. "That is not accurate and I don't think Robby has said that, Jake,” Kaine replied, although video footage shows Mook saying just that.

DNC Applauds Abortion! And Catholic Tom Kaine is proud to be part of it!

At the Democrat National Convention in Philly, the President of NARAL (IIlyse Hogue) spoke about having an abortion and the crowd went wild.

Is this what Tom Kaine is proud of as a Roman Catholic?

He should be ashamed of himself and just another reason why Clinton/Kaine should not be elected.

The Catholic Paths of Pence and Kaine

From the ACTION Institute:

In a new article written for the Wall Street Journal, president and co-founder of the Acton Institute, Fr. Robert Sirico, makes an important point regarding the integrity of Catholic politicians. While respecting the traditions and doctrines of the Catholic Church, one should not compromise or adjust points of faith depending on the institutional context. “Key doctrinal and moral rules apply to all Catholics in all contexts—in business, at home, or in elective office. One cannot “personally” oppose something while making a living advocating it.” The Catholic Church does not call members to pick and choose doctrines most convenient with one’s worldview—however this is has happened in today’s political landscape.

Kaine’s Conscience and His Party’s Hard Line on Abortion

From National Catholic Register:

Back in 2008, when Kaine was on Obama’s short list of running mates, Kaine told Charlie Rose, “There’s a moral gravity, I think, to abortion as an issue that has to be respected.”
That kind of talk raised questions after Clinton announced that Kaine would be the Democratic Party’s vice-presidential candidate.
So the question is, what will he do?

Clinton Kaine Platform has the most radical abortion plank ever!

The Clinton/Kaine Team is so proud of this but even tough most Americans are against taxpayer funded abortions and restrictions on when, they are pushing a really radical agenda.

The Democrat Party platform:
  • Calls for appointing judges who “will protect a woman’s right to safe and legal abortion.”  (No blind justice here!)
  • Proposes overturning the Hyde Amendment, federal legislation that has prohibited federal funds from being used to directly pay for abortions since 1977.
  • Supports repeal of the “global gag rule” — which prevents non-governmental organizations that receive federal funding from promoting elective abortion in foreign countries — and the Helms Amendment — which stipulates that foreign assistance funds may not be used to perform or promote elective abortion.
  • Opposes efforts to withdraw federal funding from Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider.  (Another method to continue to have funds go back to the Democrat Party.)

Another reason why faithful Catholics should not elect, Clinton/Kaine.

“Democratic VP choice, Tim Kaine, has been widely identified as a Roman Catholic,” Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island wrote on Facebook. “It is also reported that he publicly supports ‘freedom of choice’ for abortion, same-sex marriage, gay adoptions, and the ordination of women as priests. All of these positions are clearly contrary to well-established Catholic teachings; all of them have been opposed by Pope Francis as well.”
